Bandwidth Requirements for the different Subnets

Hi,

in the Quick Start Guide there is the requirement to configure 5 different Subnets:

  • iSCSI-1
  • iSCSI-2
  • Backend 1
  • Backend 2
  • Management

I'm planning to have a cluster with 10 Gb/s for the main storage traffic.

What about the needed Bandwidth for those subnets? I assume iSCSI-1/2 obviously need maximum Speed. Also clear seems to me, that management can probable do comfortably with even 10 Mbit/s(only to take it to the extremes for clarity). But what about Backend-1/2.  Do they need maximum Speed to?

iSCSI 1/2 :  traffic from  client to iSCSI service

Bachend 1: traffic from iSCSI service to Ceph storage ( this is the Ceph public/client network )

Backend 2: internal Ceph traffic for replication and recovery ( Ceph private network )

so Backend 1 carries the traffic of iSCSI 1 and 2 combined.

Backend 2:  If replica count is 2 then it will carry the same write traffic as Backend 1, if replica count is 3 it carries 2x write traffic. It also carries the traffic in case of recovery and re balancing when disks die or are added.

In normal traffic, backend  1 is most loaded.

Thanks a lot!
