There is no default root password, the cluster password set in the deployment wizard is the root password. We will be adding a way to log in through the node console menu in the future, for now you can download this iso, it is release 1.2 with a default root password of "password" without the " quotes.

What is the information displayed on the node console the blue background screen when you connect your node to a monitor ? is the network setup for the management interface correct ?
You should be able to press control alt F1 to access a login prompt to enter the root user and above password.
This is a Ubuntu 16.04, look for the content of /etc/network/interfaces
what does ifconfig display ?
can you ping to other nodes ?
Are the interfaces found in /sys/class/net
what is the output of:
lspci -v
dmesg
/sys/class/net/eth0/device/driver/module
lsmod
