mesh network

Hi admin,

We have 3 servers that we want to transform into cluster storage with PetaSAN
but there is only 2x1Gb for the network available on each server

Is it possible to build a mesh network with 3 cards dual 10Gb  on each server
to connect the sub-net back-end 1 and 2 together ?

Best regards.

You can map more than 1 subnet on the same nic, no problem. it is better to tag them as separate vlans but not a must.

I am not sure i follow what you mean exactly, but you can assign both backend 1 and 2 to the same nic, you can also bond 2 or 3 nics together in a bond and map the subnets onto them.

I think what he is wanting is to for-go the 10GBPS switch, which is a yes, but how would you get the data in/out of your cluster?

on each node the network must be bonded in active-active mode, then set the b1 and b2 networks on the bond.

node1 bond-port1 to node2 bond-port1

node1 bond-port2 to node3 bond-port1

node2 bond-port2 to node3 bond-port2

standard triangle network, but as you can see no iSCSI can work outside this network so you must assign iscsi to the 1gbps ports, which would work, but would also be slow. 10gbps switches come up on ebay and other auction sites all the time, sometimes at a very good price too. I seriously suggest a switch.
