Ceph does provide a snapshot system and a method to export the snapshot as an independent image (we use this as part of a versioning system). So we are thinking we could get petasan to just replicate to a tape system.
Thoughts?

It supports backups/restores from local storage, sftp and aws out of the box, and probably with some manual setups will support tape as well.
