New User question

Hi !

I'm new to petasan.
I would like to test it on 3 nodes with 3 replicas.

Each nodes has:
128GB RAM
2x e5-2670 v3
4 X 25Gb ports (2 x dual 25Gb cards) mellanox cards
2 X 10GB ports (1 x dual 10Gb cards) intel card

My start SSD/ HDD configuration is as follow:

2 x 1TB SATA SSD (Petasan)
2 x 960GB ENTERPRISE SAS SSD (1 Cache / 1 Journal)
4 X 10TB SAS HDD (OSD)

Is it correct that total usable size will be 40TB ?

The idea is to use:

2 ports for management / SMB / NFS
2 ports for ISCSI
2 ports for Backend

For best performance do I have to use bound
or is better to use each card as standalone?

What is the best configuration ?

I would like to test with :
- ISCSI with 8 nodes vsphere accessing it.
- SMB repository for veeam Backup with very high workload.

What will be the best tuning template / Storage engine  ?

In case I will add later  a backupserver which network will be used for
backup / async replica ?

Later on production i will need 80TB total usable size for
backups and 30 / 40 TB for VM so I plan to add more HDD / SSD

Is it ok to mix SSD with HDD ?

Thanks
Tom

Yes

I would bond the 2x 10G for  management / SMB / NFS

iSCSI use 2x unbonded 25G ports( 1 port on each card ) for iSCSI MPIO

Backend bond on 2x 25 ports ( 1 port on each card )

Use the defaults

It is ok if you create different pools out of them, using different crush placement rules, we do have ready made rule templates under the add rule page. However the out of the box default pool that gets created when you first install will use all drive type it sees, so it may be better to only use it for testing but create your own pools for hdds and ssds.
