iSCSI connection

I have a vmware server with a 10G interface for iSCSI. The Petasan also has 2 interface per node for iSCSI. The ip get assigned perfectly from the range I specified.

The problem is that all VMware nodes can ping eachother on the iSCSI network but none off them can ping the Petasan. If I bring down one Petasan node the IP switches to the other iSCSI node.

I looked at the interfaces and I see they are up but I do not see "running".

Has someone a idea what this could be?

Can PetaSAN nodes ping each other, using 2 nodes that have virtual ips on iSCSI 1/2 ?

VMWare hosts have ips on iSCSI 1/2 correct ?

do you have any vlans/bonds and if so are the switches setup correctly ?

Noticed an issue on our 4th node when we brought it online.. the cables that were in the 10g cards for the 2 iscsi networks were swapped.

ie:

iSCSI NIC 1 petasan was looking for a network of 10.20.50.0/24

iSCSI NIC 2 petasan was looking for a network of 10.20.51.0/24

But NIC 1 was plugged into a switch port configured for 10.20.51.0/24, and NIC 2 was configured for the 10.20.50.0/24.

All I had to do was swap the cables from NIC1 to NIC2 and it all worked fine.

Hello neiltorda, thank you for your nput but it is not fixed with a cable swap. Because the switch is not set up with seperate networks yet. I want to get things working and then segment it.

Hello Admin, I have configured two nodes with iSCSI targets and both have two 10G ports. I would need to set at least two targets to get a virtual ip on both iSCSI targets to see if I can ping iSCSI to iSCSI on Petasan.

I have eth6 and eth0 assigned for this per node. eth0 gets assigned one subnet on one node and eth6 gets assigned the the second subnet on the second node.

I tried to set it manual by selecting the paths and assign it to a node 1 or node 2. Then I get the error "Please select a defferent destination node"

I would need to set at least two targets to get a virtual ip on both iSCSI targets to see if I can ping iSCSI to iSCSI on Petasan.

did you try this ? did they the 2 nodes ping each othet ? you can also create 1 target with say 8 paths if you do need to create 1 target only. what we need is to see if pings are working or not.
