PetaSAN setup on Virutal Machines

Hello,

I have the following setup:
2 Servers running ESXi 5.5 hosting virtual machines.
2 Micro servers running ESXi 5.5 for PetaSAN

I would like to deploy 2 PetaSAN VMs on the microservers and serve the local storage of the microservers to the 2 main ESXi hosts.

I tried deploying 1 VM on the Servers running ESXi to serve as a Managment/Witness VM with only the managment services installed and two VMs on the microservers with all services istalled.
When I joined all 3 VMs to the cluster the cluster setup still wanted antoher node to form a cluster.

Is it possible to have the setup as described above - 2 Nodes serving storage 1 Node acting as Managment/Wittnes?
Is is possible to deploy PetaSAN on VMs or it is better to be bare metal?
What kind of logs we can review on PetaSAN?

Thank you in advance.

For bare metal, we do a lot of testing with ESXi 6 and it works really well.

For hyper-converged setup, we just started to test this, some configurations work very well others not so, we are in the middle of this so once done we should have a recommendation on how to best set this up.  One recommendation for now is to give the VMs enough resources.

Yes this setup is supported. When your third node joins the cluster, the cluster should be build and functioning. i am not sure why this did not work in your case but i suggest you retry it. When you deploy the first node, you create the cluster, then when you deploy node 2 and 3 they should join the cluster on node 1. If the problem persists, then please email me at admin @  petasan.org  with the following files for all 3 nodes :

/opt/petasan/log/PetaSAN.log

/opt/petasan/config/cluster_info.json

You can use ssh or WinSCP log using root userame and your cluster password to copy the files.
