Yes version 2.8 will had S3 support. we target our releases for 3 to 4 months, so expect mid march.

No, 2.7.3 is a bug fixing release it does not affect the 2.8 release cycle. 2.8 is done in development and currently in our testing/bug fixing stage.

Testing and bug fixing is almost done, mostly multi-site support needs to be tested, this is using Ceph Nautilus, we also have an Octopus build which we plan to do a regression test on, we are not sure which one will be released.

I personally would prefer Nautilus. Every recent Ceph release came with a bunch of bugs, so I would like to wait for them to be fixed upstream before upgrading.
But thats my personal opinion, you might have a reason for taking an upgrade into account.
